☀️ 54 Hours in Lanzarote: The Ultimate January Escape
Let’s be honest—January is rough. It’s cold, it’s grey, and it feels like the longest month of the year. Christmas is just a memory, summer’s nowhere in sight, and we’re all craving something to break the monotony. For me, that something is usually sunshine, sea air, and a cheeky weekend getaway.
So this year, I did exactly that. And yes—you absolutely can fly to the Canary Islands for just a weekend. Here's how we squeezed in 54 hours of sunshine, sangria, and sunsets in Lanzarote, and why I’d 100% do it again.
✈️ Liverpool to Lanzarote for the Weekend? Yep.
When I found super cheap flights from Liverpool (my favourite airport), it was a no-brainer. Our outbound flight took off at 5:15am on a Saturday, and I was back at my desk in the UK by 8:00am Tuesday. Sounds mad? Maybe. But it worked like a charm.
🌴 Day 1: Cocktails by Noon, Sunset by the Sea
By midday Saturday, I had a cocktail in hand, brunch on the table, and the sun warming my face. January bliss.
We spent the afternoon strolling Puerto del Carmen’s seafront promenade, a long, breezy stretch lined with beach bars, restaurants, and ocean views. The weather? A dreamy 20°C during the day, dipping to around 13°C at night—perfect cardigan weather.
📸 Top sunset spot? Café la Ola—get there early for front-row seats and some serious Instagram material.
We grabbed dinner at Don Rafael Steakhouse (generous portions, great value) before heading to our favourite bar: Sunset Beach, where we jumped into the daily music quiz (and flopped—better luck next time!). Add in a bit of karaoke, a boogie at Route 66, and that was Day 1: done and dusted.
🐬 Day 2: Wild Encounters and Volcanic Adventures
Sunday was our full day, so we made the most of it. After breakfast, we headed to Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park—a unique blend of zoo, water park, and immersive educational experiences.
🦁 Expect:
Animal encounters: tigers, birds of prey, sea lions, and more.
Live shows: dolphin displays are a highlight.
A mini water park: slides, splash zones, and chill-out areas.
🎟️ Top tip: If you're staying longer, book their Cowboy-themed evening—line dancing, BBQ, and Wild West vibes all night long.
One of the standout features of the park is the Environmental Cave. This immersive experience takes you back 35 million years to the volcanic origins of the Canary Islands. As you walk through a recreated volcanic tube, you're surrounded by 4K projections, surround sound, and interactive exhibits that bring to life the underwater world and the formation of the islands. It's both educational and entertaining, offering a unique perspective.
🐟 Day 3: Harbour Strolls & Mojo Sauce Dreams
With a 7:35pm flight home, we had all day Monday to squeeze in more sunshine. We wandered down to Puerto del Carmen’s Old Town harbour, visited the local cats (yes, there are harbour cats!), and found a quiet spot for lunch with a view.
🍽️ What to order? Fresh grilled fish with Canarian potatoes and mojo sauce. Honestly, I’d consider flying back just for that meal alone.
☀️ Final Thoughts: Is 54 Hours Enough?
Surprisingly? Yes. Even just a couple of sun-soaked days can totally lift your mood and recharge your energy. Lanzarote in January offers the perfect escape: warm weather, short flights (around 4.5 hours from the UK), and good vibes all round.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Already planning it.
